MA PFML on your pay stub
MA PFML is your share of Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave: at most employers 0.46% of your wages, up to $184,500 of wages a year. On a $60,000 salary that's $10.62 every two weeks, $276 a year.
Where 0.46% comes from
The total PFML contribution is 0.88% of wages: 0.18% for family leave and 0.7% for medical leave. Employers may take all of the family part (0.18%) and up to 40% of the medical part (0.28%) from your pay — 0.46% in all — and pay the rest themselves. Employers with fewer than 25 workers don't have to pay a share, but can still take the 0.46% from you. Some employers pay more of it, so your line can be lower.
How to check the line
- Take your wages for the period that Social Security is figured on (gross pay minus pre-tax health and other section 125 benefits).
- Multiply by 0.0046 (0.46%) — $4.60 per $1,000.
- It stops once your wages for the year pass $184,500, the Social Security wage base.
