How the New York City tax works
The NYC resident tax is withheld from the pay of people who live in the five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island — wherever they work. If you work in the city but live outside it, no NYC tax is withheld.
It is graduated like the state tax. After the city's own deduction ($5,000 a year single, $5,500 married), the withholding tables start at 2.05% and reach 4.25%. Your IT-2104 has a separate line for NYC allowances; enter it in the calculator's NYC allowances field if you filled it in.
