What comes out of a Nevada paycheck

Nevada has no state income tax — the state constitution says no income tax may be levied on the wages or personal income of people. So a Nevada paycheck has only the federal deductions above taken out, plus whatever you chose, such as a 401(k), health insurance or union dues.

Nevada's two big payroll taxes are both on the employer: unemployment insurance is financed by a payroll tax on employers with no deduction from your wages, and the state's Modified Business Tax may not be deducted from employee pay either.

What's different about Nevada

Daily overtime for many workers

Nevada is one of the few states with daily overtime. If you are paid less than 1½ times the minimum wage — under $18.00 an hour — you get time-and-a-half for hours over 8 in a workday, not only for hours over 40 in a week. The exception is a schedule you and your employer agree to of 10 hours a day for 4 days. Many managers, professionals, union workers under a contract and some drivers are exempt.

To see daily overtime in the calculator, add up your overtime hours for the week (daily and weekly, without counting any hour twice) and enter them in "Overtime hours a week".

Tips don't count toward minimum wage

Nevada does not allow a tip credit. Tipped workers must get the full $12.00 an hour from their employer, and tips come on top.

When you must be paid

Nevada law makes wages due at least twice a month. A different schedule is allowed only if you agree to it in writing, and it can't be a condition of getting the job. Employers must post their regular paydays and give you an itemized list of deductions with each payment.

Your last paycheck

If you are fired, your wages are due immediately. If you quit, they are due on your next regular payday or within 7 days, whichever comes first. If an employer is late, it can owe your daily pay as a penalty for up to 30 days.

Moving to Nevada

If you move to Nevada from a state with an income tax, your take-home pay rises by roughly what that state was withholding. Work done in another state may still be taxed there; this calculator covers work done in Nevada.

Why your paycheck might differ from this

Tips and overtime in 2026

New federal deductions apply for 2025 through 2028: up to $25,000 for qualified tips, and up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) for the extra "half" of time-and-a-half overtime. Both phase out above $150,000 of income ($300,000 joint).

These are deductions on your tax return. Your employer still takes Social Security and Medicare out of tips and overtime, and still withholds income tax unless you tell it otherwise. If you expect to claim them, you can put the expected amount in Step 4(b) of your W-4 (and in the Step 4(b) box above) so less income tax is withheld during the year.

Questions

Does Nevada take state tax out of my paycheck?

No. Nevada's constitution forbids an income tax on wages, so there is no state income tax withholding. Only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare are taken out, plus any benefits you signed up for.

How much is taken out of a $1,000 paycheck in Nevada?

For a single filer paid every two weeks with nothing else on the W-4, a $1,000 paycheck has about $38.08 of federal income tax, $62.00 of Social Security and $14.50 of Medicare taken out, leaving $885.42. Enter your own details in the calculator for your exact figure.

What is $20 an hour after taxes in Nevada?

Working 40 hours a week and paid every two weeks, $20 an hour is $1,600.00 before tax and about $1,369.45 after tax per paycheck — $35,605.60 a year — for a single filer with a standard W-4.

Does Nevada have daily overtime?

Yes, for workers paid less than 1½ times the minimum wage (under $18.00 an hour): hours over 8 in a workday are paid at time-and-a-half, unless you agreed to a 4-day, 10-hour schedule. Everyone covered also gets overtime after 40 hours in a week.

When do I get my last paycheck in Nevada?

Immediately if you are fired. If you quit, on your next regular payday or within 7 days, whichever is sooner.

What is the minimum wage in Nevada?
