Hourly pay in Florida
Florida's minimum wage is $15.00 an hour from September 30, 2026, and $11.98 cash wage for tipped employees (the employer makes up the difference if tips fall short). Most hourly workers must get time-and-a-half for hours over 40 in a week under federal law.
Tips you report to your employer are wages: Social Security, Medicare and federal income tax apply to them just like to your hourly pay. Florida adds nothing on top.
Minimum wage after taxes in Florida
At Florida's minimum wage of $15 an hour (since September 30, 2026), a full-time worker takes home about $1,048.05 every two weeks - $27,249 a year, or $13.10 for each hour worked after tax. From 2027 it rises each year with inflation; the first adjusted rate hasn't been announced.
| Minimum wage, $15/hour | Gross per paycheck | Take-home per paycheck | Take-home a year | After tax per hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40 hours a week | $1,200.00 | $1,048.05 | $27,249 | $13.10 |
| 30 hours a week | $900.00 | $803.07 | $20,880 | $13.38 |
| 20 hours a week | $600.00 | $554.10 | $14,407 | $13.85 |
Paid every two weeks, single filer, standard W-4, no benefits. Tipped workers can be paid $11.98 an hour in cash if tips bring them to the full minimum; their tax depends on the tips they report. Every state's figures: minimum wage after taxes by state.
Take-home at common hourly rates in Florida
Full time (40 hours a week), paid every two weeks, single filer with a standard W-4 and no benefits. The last column is what you keep for each hour worked.
| Hourly rate | Take-home per paycheck | Take-home a year | Kept per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15 (minimum wage) | $1,048.05 | $27,249 | $13.10 |
| $18 | $1,240.89 | $32,263 | $15.51 |
| $20 | $1,369.45 | $35,606 | $17.12 |
| $22 | $1,498.01 | $38,948 | $18.73 |
| $25 | $1,690.85 | $43,962 | $21.14 |
| $30 | $2,012.25 | $52,318 | $25.15 |
Part time and overtime at $20 an hour in Florida
Every two weeks, single filer, standard W-4. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the rate. More hours mean a larger share is withheld, because withholding is worked out as if each paycheck were repeated all year.
| Hours a week | Gross per paycheck | Take-home per paycheck | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 hours | $800.00 | $720.72 | 90% |
| 30 hours | $1,200.00 | $1,048.05 | 87% |
| 40 hours | $1,600.00 | $1,369.45 | 86% |
| 40 hours + 5 overtime | $1,900.00 | $1,610.50 | 85% |
| 40 hours + 10 overtime | $2,200.00 | $1,851.55 | 84% |
Because hours change from week to week, your withholding changes too: a week with lots of overtime is withheld as if you earned that much every week, so more comes out. It usually evens out when you file your return.
Tips and overtime in 2026
New federal deductions apply for 2025 through 2028: up to $25,000 for qualified tips, and up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) for the extra "half" of time-and-a-half overtime. Both phase out above $150,000 of income ($300,000 joint).
These are deductions on your tax return. Your employer still takes Social Security and Medicare out of tips and overtime, and still withholds income tax unless you tell it otherwise. If you expect to claim them, you can put the expected amount in Step 4(b) of your W-4 (and in the Step 4(b) box above) so less income tax is withheld during the year.
